Scoop: Cadillac XT4 Prototype Seen Hiding An Extra Fuel Cap

This marks our second sighting of Cadillac's upcoming compact crossover, ever since the automaker confirmed that the new model would be called XT4 instead of XT3.

Aside from covering up Cadillac's pentagonal mesh grille, a set of LED headlights and C-Pillar-mounted taillights, the camouflage on this particular tester is also masking what we're told is an extra "fuel" cap on the left front fender, something we find on plug-in hybrids.

Our spy photographers managed to get a close look and confirmed the presence of a secondary fuel cap/charging port, which, of course, points to Cadillac testing the XT4 in PHEV form.

Expect Cadillac to offer regular four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines to compete against Audi's, BMW's and Mercedes' own force-fed units - as found on rivals such as the Q3, X1 and GLA respectively. Also likely is a nine-speed automatic transmission, as well as an all-wheel drive system, available either as standard or as an option.

According to company president Johan de Nysschen, the XT4 will feature "an entirely new series of efficient and powerful engines," and following its launch, around the middle of next year, a new Cadillac will be "brought to market every six months," totaling five car-lines in the space of two years.
