The upcoming Volvo XC40 has been spied in the midst of testing once again, this time in Granada, Spain.
As with previous XC40 prototypes, this one is covered in thick black body cladding and camouflage in a bid to hide its identity and key styling traits. Despite the Swedish automaker's best attempts, there's no confusing what we're looking at.
Underpinning the XC40 will be Volvo's Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) set to be used by an all-new range of 40-series models, including new S40 and V40 vehicles. In XC40 guise, Volvo will have a direct rival to the Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1 and Audi Q3 and first previewed the compact SUV with 2016's 40.1 concept car.
Among the key design elements visible on this prototype including the 'Thor's Hammer' headlights, taillights that stretch from the tailgate up the D-pillars and a small lip spoiler. Previous spy shots have revealed that the SUV's cabin will also get a large central infotainment screen and system, a three-spoke steering wheel and a simple center console design.
As for engines, Volvo is expected to offer a brand new 1.5-liter three-cylinder alongside the familiar mix of four-cylinder petrol and diesel units.
