New Cadillac XT5 Lands In Japan In First Limited Edition

Between Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti, you wouldn't think Japan would have much need of an American luxury crossover. But the country with a 7-Eleven on every corner and a passion for jeans has shown considerable enthusiasm for Americana, and General Motors is keen to meet demand with its new Cadillac XT5.

The American luxury crossover is reaching Japan initially in the form of the special Cadillac XT5 First Limited Edition, with availability restricted to just 20 examples.

The First Limited Edition offers a choice of either pearl white or metallic black paint, with only ten to be offered in each. It also comes with special side steps and illuminated liftgate sill plate, and an interior done up in jet black with bronze carbon-fiber trim.

In other words, there's nothing particularly special about this special edition other than its restricted availability, but for 7,830,000 yen, buyers can expect to get one of the first examples off the boat. That, in case you're wondering, comes out to over $69k at current exchange rates – which seems like a lot when compared to the $39k at which the XT5 starts back home on the other side of the Pacific.

But the special-edition is based on the top-of-the-lie Platinum model, which retails for nearly $63k in America. Considering the high cost of importing foreign-made cars into Japan – especially ones with engines as (relatively) large as the XT5's 3.6-liter V6 – the $6k premium doesn't actually seem like that much.
