There are classic rally cars and then there’s the Lancia Delta Integrale that was driven by racing God Juha Kankunnen.
This works Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evolution managed to double its lower estimate when it sold for £225,000 at the Silverstone Classic Race Car Sale on July 27.
The car was campaigned as an official Lancia Abarth works rally entrant in the 1990 World Rally Championship, driven by four-times WRC Champion Juha Kankunnen.
In 1992 it was the first car to be converted from 16v to HF Evoluzione specification by CECOMP Spa, the official partner of Lancia Abarth at the time. The modifications made it handle better on both tarmac and gravel.
“The car is a true rally legend and an important part of World Rally Championship history and clearly much in demand on the evening,” commented Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions. “It was a dramatic highlight in a remarkably successful race car sale.”
Wearing its classic Martini colors and preserving its original Italian registration plate TO 23905P, this Lancia Delta HF Integrale is a worthy addition to any collection, and one that deserves to be driven.
