The Concept EQA is Mercedes' first ever all-electric EQ C-segment concept car, powered by two electric motors and boasting an evolution of the automaker's Sensual Purity design language.
Unveiled in Frankfurt, the Concept EQA boasts a total system output of over 200 kW (272 PS), with the permanent all-wheel drive system taking care of the front to rear torque distribution.
"With the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA, our electric initiative is gathering pace: by 2022 Mercedes-Benz cars will have more than ten all-electric vehicles on the market," stated Daimler boss, Dr Dieter Zetsche.
In terms of design, the Concept EQA has a shape that brings to mind VW's Scirocco while relying on a drastic reduction in sharp edges and lines, as well as the addition of a spiral-shaped light signet. The black panel at the front acts as a "virtual" radiator grille, and changes according to the selected drive program. For example, if the car is in "Sport", the grille depicts a flaming wing, whereas "Sport Plus" brings out vertical struts in the style of a Panamericana radiator grille.
"The progressive vehicle concept of the Concept EQA combines impressive dynamism with a long range that is ideal for day-to-day driving, and is based on an architecture exclusively developed for the battery-electric models," added Daimler board member, Ola Kallenius.
As for the first series-produced model belonging to the EQ product brand, it's going to be the EQC, scheduled to come out of the Mercedes-Benz Bremen plant, in 2019, and will be based on the Concept EQ exhibited in Paris last year.
