A mysterious McLaren prototype has been spied near the Nürburgring.
Apparently based on the McLaren 675 LT, the high-performance model has an aggressive front fascia with a large splitter that is flanked by canards. The prototype also appears to have a ventilated hood, a roof-mounted air intake, and lightweight alloy wheels that cover massive brake discs.
The rear of the car is equally aggressive as it features a large wing and a sporty diffuser. We can also see a ventilated rear bumper and a center-mounted dual exhaust system.
While the car looks like a racing prototype, it's interesting to note the windshield sticker says "MV715-23." As our spy shooter notes, BP23 is the internal codename for the company's P1 successor so this could suggest the model is actually a mule for that particular car.
Little is known about the BP23 but the model will be built by McLaren Special Operations and the company has referred to it as a “Hyper-GT.” The car is slated to be launched in 2019 and have a McLaren F1-style three person seating arrangement where the driver sits in the center and each passenger seat is located off to the side.
Power could be provided by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that has been equipped with hybrid technology. There's no word on specifics but the model is expected to be more powerful than the P1 which developed 903 hp (673 kW).
