New Opel Insignia GSi Sports Tourer Breaks Cover With 207HP Diesel Engine

While several car manufacturers are thinking twice before launching a new diesel-powered product in Europe, Opel is offering the new Insignia GSi Sports Tourer with an oil burner.

It's the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder twin-turbo engine that debuted in the regular Insignia models a few days ago, and it makes 210PS (207hp) and 480Nm (354lb-ft) of torque, channeled to the all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring through a new 8-speed automatic transmission.

The PSA-owned brand states that it needs 7.9 seconds for the 0 to 100km/h (62mph) acceleration, with top speed standing at 231km/h (144mph). It returns a NEDC-estimated 8.9 l/100 km (31.74 mpg UK / 26.43 mpg US) urban, 6.1 l/100 km (46.3 mpg UK / 38.55 mpg US) extra-urban, and 7.3 l/100 km (38.7 mpg UK / 32.22 mpg US) combined, while the CO2 emissions are rated at 192 g/km.

Those who prefer a turbo'd gasoline engine can also order the new Insignia Sports Tourer GSi with the same lump that powers its four-door sibling. This version delivers 260PS (256hp) and 400Nm (295lb-ft) of torque, and allows it to go from rest to 100km/h (62mph) in 7.5sec, and up to a top speed of 245km/h (152mph).

Both models sit 10mm (0.4in) closer to the ground than the regular versions and benefit from the standard FlexRide chassis, 20-inch wheels wrapped in extra sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires, Brembo brakes and the so-called 'Competition' mode, which can be enabled by turning the ESP off.

Visual updates applied to the new Insignia GSi Sports Tourer include the large chrome air intakes at the front and rear diffuser, in addition to the new sports seats, flat-bottom steering wheel wrapped in leather, and several other tweaks.

Opel will bring their new hot estate at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show next week, before going on sale in the coming months.
