PSA And Changan Will Launch A New One-Ton Pickup By 2020

After acquiring Opel/Vauxhall from General Motors earlier this year, the PSA Group continues to expand its operations by signing an agreement with Changan Automobile.

The partners agreed to co-develop a new vehicle platform, dedicated to light commercial vehicles (LCV), which will be implemented in the Ding Zhou Changan facility, and to develop a new one-ton pickup truck for both companies.

Despite being a long way from hitting the assembly lines, the vehicle will have to meet "the most stringent worldwide regulations and customer's expectations with a very strong design, and uncompromising quality and durability", according to PSA and Changan.

"This first common development for a new generation of one-ton pickup is a great opportunity for both companies to hit markets in China and overseas. It is a strong milestone in a long term cooperation between the PSA Group and Changan", said the Chinese company's EVP Cooperation and Strategy, Mingxue Yuan.

At the same time, PSA's EVP of Programs and Strategy, Patrice Lucas, reminds that this product is "complementary to the Peugeot pickup recently launched in Africa", adding that it "will support" their "comeback on this growing market segment", and that it's part of their 'Push to Pass' plan.
