Pricing details for the facelifted 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class have just been announced and despite the selection of upgrades made to the refreshed model, the entry-level model actually costs a little less than the outgoing car.
Car and Driver reports that the range starts out with the 2018 S450 priced from $90,895, some $6,700 cheaper than the 2017 S550. Importantly, the S450 should be cheaper than the S550 because it doesn’t use a twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8 with 449 hp and 516 lb-ft and instead makes do with a 3.0-liter V6 offering 362 hp and 369 lb-ft.
As for the 2018 AMG S63, it too experiences a bump in price, now priced from $148,495 or $2,800 more than the 2017 S63. The most significant change between the two is the new car’s adoption of a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 instead of a 5.5-liter biturbo V8, and a new nine-speed auto rather than a seven-speed.
Also included in the 2018 range is the S65 and Maybach S650. The former of those two continues to use a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 and starts at $230,495. By comparison, the Maybach S650 can be purchased for $199,695.
