After experiencing engine problems on his V12-powered Rolls-Royce Phantom, Yajima-San decided the best thing to do was to use a Toyota 2JZ power unit. A heavily customized one, that is.
You probably already know this, but Toyota's series of 2JZ 3.0-liter inline-six engines are what powered the last of the Supras (among others), with the twin-turbocharged version (2JZ GTE) being one of the most iconic performance powerplants of the 1990s.
Yajima-San says that his Phantom, which he uses on a daily basis for both work and leisure, is currently putting down around 700 HP. Apparently, he intends to race the car on both circuits as well as drag strips in order to see what it can do.
By the way, judging by the interviewer's reaction during acceleration, we're guessing this two and a half tonne (5,700 lbs) car gets from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) a lot quicker than stock.
What's funny is that you can definitely hear the engine howl during acceleration, which isn't something most Phantom owners go for in a car that's supposed to put the outside world on mute. Then again, if you're a racing enthusiast, noise is good, always.
He's also planning some bodywork modifications, such as cutting ventilation holes in the bonnet and turning the car into a sort of Phantom GT, just for aggressiveness' sake. Though if he had another Phantom, he'd turn that one into a drift car and hope that Ken Block would use it in one of his videos - we'd definitely love to see something like that.
