After making the Tiguan more affordable in the United States last week, Volkswagen has now done the exact opposite to the larger Atlas.
The price increase makes the entry-level model $250 more expensive than before, reports CarsDirect, as it can be had from $31,675, moving further away from the base Tiguan and its $25,495 starting price.
Previously available from $33,590, the Atlas SE now costs at least $34,765, or $7,115 more than the equivalent Tiguan, whereas the top-of-the-line trim, called Atlas SEL Premium, moves extremely close to the $50,000 mark, with a $49,415 starting price, or $925 more than before.
Despite having to pay more for a 2018 Volkswagen Atlas, customers won't get any new standard features, so ticking some options from the list, such as the four-wheel drive system, panoramic sunroof, or garage door opener, will bump the price furthermore.
Powering Volkswagen's 7-seater SUV is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that develops 235hp and 258lb-ft (350Nm) of torque, or a 3.6-liter V6 with 276hp and 266lb-ft (361Nm) of torque. Both units can be had with AWD.
