Moving the 3.8-liter V6 engine from the front to the middle of the car would require a new chassis, along with other drastic work carried beneath the skin, and it should bump its price substantially.
Chevrolet is doing just that with the Corvette C8, which is on its way with a mid-mounted, electrified twin-turbo 6.2-liter V8 said to develop a total output in excess of 1,000 horsepower.
A replacement for the current GT-R, on the other hand, which has been in production since December 2007, with a number of visual and technical upgrades, along with various special editions, over the years, is nowhere in sight.
Still, there were rumors that the Godzilla could morph into a hybrid supercar for its next generation, using the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine of the GT-R LM Nismo to produce close to 600hp.
Other reports claim that the next GT-R might ditch its two-door coupe body style and become a four-door sedan, but right now that’s all just speculation.
