Offered with two chassis settings, rear-wheel steering, a “clever” suspension, a 280PS (276hp) 1.8-liter turbocharged engine and the choice of a manual or a dual-clutch transmission, the VW Golf GTI and Honda Civic Type R rival was driven in Spain by the Press a couple of weeks ago.
Autocar has released a short video that includes some track time with the car, while making some interesting observations. The first one says that the new powertrain might not be as exciting as the old 2.0-liter unit, but the overall impression from behind the wheel is a positive one, and the second that it might just be better than the Civic Type R.
On the other hand, Carfection’s review offers a more in-depth look into the new Megane RS, comparing the cornering abilities of the Sport chassis, on a twisty road, with those of the Mitsubishi Evo when the rear-wheel steering kicks in.
Elsewhere, the hot hatch is said to be easy to live with thanks to its comfortable seats and suspension that absorbs most bumps in the road, but if driving on the track occasionally is your thing, then you may want to go for the Cup chassis. This adds a Torsen limited slip differential and 10 percent stiffer suspension.
Just like its predecessors, the new Megane RS is predicted to be a big success for RenaultSport, and will probably get a hardcore Trophy version later this year, but is it the FWD hot hatch to go for? Watch the reviews and let us know what you think in the comments section below.
