The recent facelift introduced plenty of new features for the Mazda6, including a new dashboard, revised styling and more tech features. The UK market will get for the first time the option of Mazda’s 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G petrol engine, as well as a more powerful version of the 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D diesel engine.
The 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine produces 191hp (194PS) and comes with a cylinder deactivation system that switches off two cylinders between 25mph and 50mph for improved efficiency. It’s paired exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Base models still use a 2.0-liter petrol engine offered in 143hp (145PS) and 162hp (165PS) guises, paired to a manual gearbox as standard. The 2.0-liter engine has also been updated with new intake ports, new pistons and revised fuel injection and cooling.
Diesel versions of the 2018 Mazda6 continue using the 2.2-liter engine, producing either 148hp (150PS) or 181hp (184PS) –up from 172hp of the previous model.
The chassis of the facelifted Mazda6 has been fitted with revised springs, larger-diameter front dampers and suspension geometry, as well as extra braces to improve rigidity. The steering column is now mounted rigidly to the suspension cross-member for a more precise response.
Thicker insulation materials have been also applied to reduce noise and vibrations, while the underbody is now flatter for better aerodynamics.
The interior features a larger eight-inch infotainment display and a color head-up display. The redesigned dashboard and door panels are made out of high-quality materials while the seats are now more comfortable. The flagship GT Sport Nav+ comes with real Japanese Sen Wood trim and brown Nappa leather/suede upholstery.
UK pricing has already been announced, with the 2018 Mazda6 priced from £23,195 for the Saloon and from £24,095 for the Tourer version.
