The Japanese brand has collaborated with Italdesign for the first time ever to create a limitless version of its flagship sportscar.
Moreover, Nissan says that depending on reception, the GTR-50 could enter an “extremely limited run” as a hand-built production vehicle. Initial price estimates place the GT-R50 at around 900,000 euros (a little over $1 million at the current exchange rates).
Nissan says that if the project gets green-lighted, no more than 50 examples will be hand-built by Italdesign, with each car tailored for each customer.
The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is based on the latest GT-R Nismo, but features completely new bodywork and interior design. It’s been created to celebrate the 50th anniversaries of both the GT-R and Italdesign.
Key highlights include a pronounced power bulge on the hood, thinner and stretched LED headlights, a lowered by 54mm roofline along with a steeper rake for the rear window, as well as twin floating taillights with hollow centers, among other. The prototype is finished in ‘Liquid Kinetic Gray’ featuring ‘Energetic Sigma Gold’ accents and rides on bespoke 21-inch alloy wheels.
The interior has been completely redone too, with a new dashboard that does away with the central infotainment system while the instrument cluster is now digital. Italdesign used two different finishes of carbon fiber across the center console, instrument panel, and door linings. Gold detailing continues inside while black Alcantara and black leather is used throughout the cabin.
Such an effort could not be completed without an upgraded engine; the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 features larger turbochargers from the GT3 race car; a heavy-duty crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, and bearings; high-flow piston oil jets; revised camshaft profiles; higher flow fuel injectors and more, producing a total of 710hp (720PS) at 7100rpm and 575lb-ft (780Nm) between 3600 and 5600rpm.
The chassis features revised Bilstein dampers, upgraded brakes, stronger differentials and a reinforced dual-clutch transmission to handle safely all the extra power.
“At Italdesign, we have a long history of making our customers’ dreams come true. By joining forces now with our partners at Nissan, we brought a true GT-R fantasy to life,” said Joerg Astalosch, CEO of Italdesign-Giugiaro. “Together, we have the target that soon this ‘monster’ of a vehicle will change the lives of 50 very select enthusiasts. Their wait will soon be over.”
