Every time a car manufactures tries something new, it’s natural to expect that they won’t nail it from the get-go, but Hyundai seems to have broken the rule with the new i30N.
The new Hyundai i30N is the company’s first true hot hatch, gunning rivals like the VW Golf GTI, the Ford Focus ST and the Seat Leon Cupra.
It comes with a chassis honed in Nurburgring and tuned by experts, including Albert Biermann who was head of development in the BMW M division, so the i30N was created by people that knew what they were doing.
Instead of going after the hardcore side of the segment, Hyundai preferred to give the i30N a more friendly character suited for everyday driving, the same recipe that VW has perfected with the Golf GTI.
The i30N also offers more power than the Golf GTI thanks to its turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that makes either 247hp in the base version or 271hp in the Performance model. Combine this with the significantly cheaper price, a way longer warranty and a very long list of standard kit that includes everything and you have to be a really stubborn badge-snob to not give it at least a second look.
