Next-Gen Peugeot 2008 Reportedly Coming In 2019 With Electric Version

Currently in its fourth year of production, the Peugeot 2008 was discreetly updated in 2016, but more radical changes are expected to be employed in two years' time.

That's when the second-generation of the subcompact crossover is expected to arrive in the market, reports Caradisiac. It will get some of the styling elements currently found on its larger siblings, the 3008 and 5008.

Inside, the 2020 Peugeot 2008 will supposedly benefit from improved headroom and legroom, and its boot space is expected to be larger. Moreover, the i-Cockpit system will be adopted from the 3008, probably retaining the 12.3-inch high-resolution screen.

Beneath its new skin, things will be completely different, as the upcoming 2008 is expected to be underpinned by an entirely new platform, developed by Peugeot together with their Chinese partners at Dongfeng.

By going down this road, the subcompact vehicle will be both stiffer and lighter, and it will also be compatible with electrification, as a zero-emission version is believed to be on the table, offered alongside the usual lineup that includes petrol and diesel units.

The new-gen Peugeot 2008 will likely remain two-wheel drive, but engineers are believed to be working on an improved Grip Control advanced stability system, which will help the car cope better with slippery surfaces.
