Tesla CEO Elon Musk is claiming he has received "verbal" government approval for The Boring Company to dig a tunnel for a Hyperloop to connect the cities of New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington D.C.
The surprise announcement caught many people off guard including local officials who seemed to have no information about the plan.
Musk later followed up by saying there is "still a lot of work needed to receive formal approval, but [I] am optimistic that [it] will occur rapidly." He then urged his more than ten million Twitter followers to contact their elected representatives and voice their support for the proposal.
A lot of questions remain about the Hyperloop but Musk suggested the high-speed transportation system would connect from "city center to city center." The outspoken executive also revealed the plans for "up to a dozen or more entry/exit elevators in each city."
The Washington Post reports the so-called approval might have come from the White House as a government spokesperson told the publication “We have had promising conversations to date, are committed to transformative infrastructure projects, and believe our greatest solutions have often come from the ingenuity and drive of the private sector.”
Other officials appeared clueless as a spokesperson for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said “This is news to City Hall" and a spokesman for Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said “We do not know what he means when he says he has received government approval." The latter spokesperson added “There are numerous hurdles for this Hyperloop technology before it can become a reality.”

If you want this to happen fast, please let your local & federal elected representatives know. Makes a big difference if they hear from you.
