Earlier this month, both Canada and the United States celebrated their respective independence days. Now it’s France’s turn.
That’s right, mesdames et messieurs: it’s Bastille Day. So what did the country’s new president do to mark his first fête nationale in office? Why, he got himself a new Peugeot, of course!
A 5008, to be specific – the Lion marque’s flagship crossover. President Emmanuel Macron rode in it today for the official president parade, marking 228 years since the Storming of the Bastille that symbolized the overthrowing of the French monarchy.
According to the manufacturer, “The presidential car is a unique vehicle, with specific adjustments meeting the requirements of enhanced security.” No further details were disclosed, but we’d surmise it was probably armored up for the occasion and fitted with stuff like an air filtration system, special communication equipment, and the like.
Macron evidently takes pride in showcasing the products of France’s domestic automotive industry. The PSA Group also furnished the special convertible DS 7 crossover for Macron's inauguration two months ago. Where the previous 5008 was a minivan, the new model is a crossover SUV that shares its EMP2 platform with the DS 7 (among numerous other Peugeot, Citroen, DS, and Opel models). It's manufactured in Rennes, earning a French Origin Warranty label, certified by the Bureau Veritas and awarded by the Pro France association.
