The perfect car exists after all and it’s this: a 1987 Mercedes W124 Estate that’s been converted by AMG to Hammer levels of awesomeness.
Under the bonnet lies a 6.0-liter V8 that’s good enough for 375hp, paired to a four-speed automatic gearbox. A locking differential was also fitted to help the rear axle cope with the much increased stresses and demands.
Of course the suspension, brakes and various other bits and pieces were also upgraded by AMG while adding their iconic body kit and 17-inch three-piece alloy wheels. AMGs from that period are just the most ‘80s things around, in a lovely way of course.
The car started its life as a diesel-powered model before the original owner ordered AMG the full 6.0 treatment for his wife, according to the very lucky and current owner Jonathan Hodgman.
“As long as you had enough zeros on the end of your check, they would do it,” Hodgman tells, “It didn’t matter what you asked for, they’d make it happen.” It’s believed that this is the only wagon version of the Hammer ever created by AMG. “As long as you could pay for it, AMG would make it a reality.”
The conversion cost an eye-watering total of $190,000 but given the uniqueness and the specialness of the vehicle we really don’t care. Petrolicious brings us the one and only AMG Hammer Wagon in their latest video.
