2019 VW Golf Will Reportedly Have Bolder Styling And More Efficient Engines

The Golf is one of Volkswagen's most important models and we're starting to learn more about the next-generation hatchback which is due in 2019.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, the next Golf will have a bolder design with slightly altered proportions. The car is also slated to feature more distinctive headlights and improved aerodynamics to help increase fuel efficiency.

Speaking of the latter, the Golf will ride on an updated version of the MQB platform and this is expected to enable the model to weigh approximately 110 lbs (50 kg) less than its predecessor. Besides the weight reduction, the Golf is expected to have a new EA 211 evo engine family that promises improved performance and reduced fuel consumption thanks to a turbocharger with a variable geometry and the use of the Miller combustion cycle.

Specifics are light at the moment but the report suggests we can expect mild hybrid variants, cleaner diesel engines, and gasoline models with particulate filters. The e-Golf will reportedly be dropped but we can expect a natural gas variant.

Besides becoming more eco-friendly, the 2019 Golf is slated to come with high-tech features such as adaptive cruise control and a head-up display. We can also expected improved infotainment systems as well as an assortment of driver assistance features.
