Mate Rimac, the founder of Rimac Automobili, has spoken out for the first time since Richard Hammond was hospitalized after crashing the company's Concept_One electric hypercar.
Taking to Facebook, Rimac offered an idea of the magnitude of the crash, stating that the car came to a rest 300 meters (328 yards) after flying off the edge of a hill featured in the Bergrennen Hemberg hillclimb race in Switzerland. Mate also revealed that the Concept_One tumbled 100 meters (109 yards) down the hill after leaving the road.
The Croatian company also says that the fire started 10 meters after the car fell onto an asphalt road while tumbling down the hill.
Due to the extensive damage sustained by the hypercar, Rimac says it has been unable to determine how fast the car was travelling when it crashed, but Jeremy Clarkson says on Drive Tribe the car may have been going 120 mph (193 km/h) when it left the road.
Shortly after last week's crash, The Grand Tour released a statement that Hammond hadn't sustained any serious injuries. Hammond then published a video from his hospital bed on Drive Tribe confirming that he was “not dead” and that he was having surgery on his knee.
