The McLaren Senna was engineered be the ultimate road-legal track car, hence the 800 PS (789 HP) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque coming from its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. At just 1,198 kg (2,641 lbs), the Senna will generate a staggering 800kg (1,763 lbs) of downforce.
Not only that, but in a straight line, it will hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.8 seconds, 124 mph (200 km/h) in 6.8 seconds, and cover a standing 1/4 mile in just 9.9 seconds, before maxing out at 211 mph (340 km/h).
“The design language of the McLaren Senna is extremely aggressive and different from any previous McLaren – because no other road-legal McLaren has had to fulfill such an uncompromising brief,” stated Rob Melville, Design Director. “When you see the car for the first time, you know instantly how single-minded and focused it is; to meet the performance targets we have had to go to an entirely different level from even the McLaren P1.”
Take the exhaust pipes for example. They exit through the lowest rear deck of any McLaren road car, a full 18 cm (7 in) lower than on the Super Series models. Meanwhile, the hydraulically-operated carbon fiber rear wing weighs just 4.87 kg (10.7 lbs), yet it can support more than 100 times its own weight in downforce.
Of course, all this weight-saving is just part of what makes this car so fast. The Senna also relies on its dual-clutch 7-speed automatic, its RaceActive Chassis Control II (RCC II) system, the aero blades and even its bespoke Pirelli P ZERO Trofeo R tires. Furthermore, the Senna features the most advanced braking system ever fitted to a McLaren road car, where each CCM-R carbon ceramic brake disc takes several months to create. Meanwhile, the F1-inspired front calipers boast six ventilated pistons to help with cooling.
Inside the cockpit, you will find plenty of carbon fiber and Alcantara, constantly reminding you of the stripped-back nature of the Senna. On one hand, you have the dashboard, doors and the Monocage III elements all decked out in carbon fiber, whereas Alcantara covers the side airbags. The rest of the cabin remains extremely exposed so as to save weight – even the door gas struts, which customers can have color-matched with the brake calipers and front active aero blades, are exposed.
On request, buyers can opt for features such as high-grade leathers and a wide ‘Touring’ spec for the carbon fiber seat, while parking sensors and the rear-view camera come at no extra cost, unlike the ultra-lightweight 7-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, that weighs just 7.32 kg (16 lbs).
The five ‘By McLaren’ color specs created so far for the Senna are Stealth Cosmos Black, Trophy Kyanos Blue, Trophy Mira Orange, Vision Pure White and Vision Victory Grey – all of which are complemented by having the front aero blades, fender inners, brake calipers, door gas struts and seat perforation in contrasting color.
Customers can spec a further 18 exterior paint colors at no extra cost, plus 16 more courtesy of MSO (McLaren Special Operations). As for the cabin, there are lots of available design alternatives to complement the Jet Black leather or Carbon Black Alcantara and visual carbon fiber cockpit materials.
