Robert Kubica To Test 2017 Renault In Hungary

Robert Kubica is one step closer to fulfilling his dream of returning to Formula One after being given a testing opportunity in Hungary this weekend.

The Polish racing driver completed a test with a Renault 2012 F1 car at the Valencia circuit in Spain in June in what was his first stint in an F1 car since 2011. He also successfully completed a test at France’s Paul Ricard Circuit recently and in a few days, will experience a 2017-spec Renault Formula One car for the very first time.

In a statement, managing director of the Renault F1 team, Cyril Abiteboul said the test will allow the racing outfit to see if Kubica has what it takes to return to the sport.

“The first two days were very rich with lessons for Robert but also for us. This session on the Budapest circuit with the RS17 will allow us, as well as us, to have more precise information with a current car and in representative conditions. At the end of these tests we will analyze the data with precision to determine how far it would be possible for Robert to return to competition in the years to come,’ Abiteboul said.

Earlier this month, Kubica said there’s an 80-90 per cent chance of him returning to Formula One after his career was cut short in early 2011 following a near-fatal rally crash.
