Lewis Hamilton Says The Project One Will Blow People's Minds

Earlier this week, the Mercedes-AMG Project One premiered in Frankfurt with a little help from Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton.

The British racing driver played a role in developing the Formula One-powered hypercar and told Top Gear that the Project One’s performance will blow people away.

“When you rev this thing and shift up through the gears, it’s just going to be breathtaking. It’s going to be very, very streamlined. And then, it’s got quite a wide track, and have you seen the size of the tyres?

“The problem is that there’s no road car in the world that could come close to what it feels like in my Formula One car. Because of the weight, aerodynamics, the sense of position, the thrill that you get. But this is going to be the closest thing. ‘Cause you’ve got the sound and the technology. I think it’s really going to blow people’s minds. It’s going to be by far the closest thing,” he said.

Speaking to the publication, Hamilton said that he’d been hounding Mercedes to build a supercar for the past ten years, expressing his belief that the German marque could build a better car than Ferrari.

On paper, the Mercedes-AMG Project One appears extraordinary. It uses a modified 2015 F1-spec 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine that’s joined by two electric motors at the front, one electric motor bolted to the engine and a fourth coupled to the turbocharger. This results in over 1,000 hp and a 0-124 mph (200 km/h) time of less than six seconds.
