Fisker EMotion To Use Five LiDAR Sensors

Henrik Fisker isn’t one to rest on his laurels and beyond promising to reveal the EMotion sedan at CES 2018 in January, he also wants to outfit the EV with five LiDAR sensors in time for the event.

Taking to Twitter, Fisker said he is working on seamlessly integrated the LiDAR sensors into the design of the car, saying that doing so is “not so easy.”

He didn’t provide any indication as to where the complex units will be used across the vehicle’s exterior but seamlessly incorporating them into the EMotion’s design won’t be easy. In fact, most automakers and technology companies haven’t progressed beyond simply fitting LiDAR units to the roofs of their autonomous driving prototypes, not caring at all about aesthetics.

According to reports from August, Fisker’s LiDAR technology will be capable of supporting level 4 autonomous driving by the time it is revealed at CES. In addition to this, the company asserts that the lithium-ion NCM chemistry cells provided by LG Chem will be enough to give the EMotion a range exceeding 400 miles (643 km).
