Quartet Of 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL 3- And 5-Door Prototypes Spied

Although we had our fair share of spy photos on the 2018 Jeep Wrangler, the majority of them was either the four-door model or the upcoming pickup version.

This time we get not one but four prototypes of the new Wrangler two-door sitting next to each other, with less camouflage than ever before.

As you can see from the photos below, two of the prototypes are regular hard-top models while the other two are Rubicon models with a soft-top.

Jeep was never going to mess with the iconic shape of the Wrangler, preferring instead to evolve the design of one of the most recognisable cars on the planet. However, underneath the familiar shape of the Wrangler will be a brand-new platform which will feature more weight-saving materials, including the limited use of aluminum.

Codenamed JL, the new generation of the Wrangler is expected to enter production this November, with the pickup JT derivative to have been pushed until later in 2019.

One of the biggest improvements over the outgoing models is expected to be found inside, with better quality materials, a modern infotainment system and painted trim bits, along with clever, off road-oriented features.

Jeep will also overhaul Wrangler’s engine range, with recent reports talking about two versions of a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit and another two of the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 to be offered. A pair of diesel engines is also on the pipeline, including a 2.2-litre four-pot and a 3.0-litre V6.
