Tesla Reportedly Eyeing Its Own Streaming Music Service

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is known for doing things differently but a new report is suggesting the company could start its own streaming music service.

According to Recode, Tesla has been taking to several major music labels about starting a streaming music service that would come standard on vehicles equipped with internet connectivity.

The exact details remain shrouded in mystery, but sources told the publication they believe Tesla is eyeing a multi-tiered service similar to Pandora. If this is correct, the company could offer a free subscription with ads and a higher paid tier that is ad free.

When asked for comment, a Tesla spokesperson didn't deny the report and stated “We believe it’s important to have an exceptional in-car experience so our customers can listen to the music they want from whatever source they choose." The spokesperson added, "Our goal is to simply achieve maximum happiness for our customers.”

While a streaming music service might distinguish Tesla from an onslaught of upcoming electric vehicles, it's hard to see the service being a deciding factor. Apple Music, Pandora, and Spotify already have millions of users and it could be a tough sell getting them to switch.
