DTM Crash Ends With Drivers Hospitalized After Merc C63 Slams Into RS5

DTM drivers Gary Paffet and Mike Rockenfeller were involved in an accident at the Norisring last weekend, which began when Paffet lost control of his Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe race car.

After hitting the wall, Paffet's C63 slid towards the hairpin and collided with Rockenfeller's RS5, slamming directly into the Audi's driver-side door.

While both drivers were able to exit their damaged vehicles, they eventually had to go to the hospital with Paffet complaining about arm pain and Rockenfeller struggling to put weight on his left foot, as reported by Autonews.

"Gary [Paffet] tried to overtake me at the last corner at the end of the previous lap," said Jamie Green, the man who was right next to Paffet's car when he lost control. "We were sort of side-by-side coming onto the straight. I had the DRS open so I pulled slightly ahead."

"When we got to Turn 1 I tried to defend and stay in front and I thought that was fine, I thought it was done, and then just as I was about to turn in he arrived backwards obviously out of control and Rocky was turning in. Gary was a passenger at that point."

Paffet and Rockenfeller are also neck and neck in the 2017 DTM Drivers Championship, where the former is currently in 7th place with 55 points, and Rocknfeller right behind him with 54 points.
