The McLaren 570S Spider Is Even Better Than The Coupe

When you buy a convertible you typically expect some drawbacks compared to its hardtop sibling. The McLaren 570S Spider isn’t like that.

Launched last month, the 570S Spider is the carmaker’s rival to the Ferrari 488 Spider and Lamborghini Huracan Spyder but unlike them, it uses a carbon fiber monocoque and doesn’t lose any of the coupe’s rigidity.

Consequently, the entry-level droptop McLaren offers all the driving dynamics of the 570S Coupe but receives an even more attractive design accentuated by two gorgeous buttresses. What’s more, the lack of a fixed roof means the supercar’s 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 can be heard in all its glory.

Perhaps the only pitfall of the 570S Spider is that in the UK, it costs 20,000 pounds ($26,070) more than the Coupe. However, if you’re in the market for a car worth more than quadruple the average salary of most countries, we think you could spare an extra $26k.
