Chevy Bolt Faces The Tesla Model S 75D In CR's Range Test

The Chevrolet Bolt is a competitor to the newly launched Tesla Model 3, but Consumer Reports wanted to see how its range compares to that of a Tesla Model S.

And they did so by pitting the two electric vehicles against each other on the same pre-determined highway route, at a speed of 65mph (105km/h), with their air conditioning turned off.

Before checking out the footage that has a clear winner, we will remind you that the Chevrolet Bolt can travel up to 238 miles (383km) on a single charge, thanks to its 60kWh lithium-ion battery that powers the electric motor. Prices for the GM-made vehicle start from $37,495, before the federal tax credit.

The Tesla Model S, in the 75D flavor, on the other hand, uses a 75kWh battery that allows it to travel up to 259 miles (417km), in-between charges. Prices for this version start from $69,500, with two-wheel drive, while the all-wheel drive model can be had from $74,500. The automaker is also offering it with a 100kWh battery, which raises the range up to 335 miles (539km), but this costs at least $97,500.

So the Tesla Model S 75D should travel more on a single charge, right? Well, you'll have to watch the video for yourselves to see which of the two has the better range.
