Jaguar Land Rover Models To Adopt New Nomenclature

Jaguar Land Rover is set to introduce a new naming scheme for all of its 2018 models onwards.

A reader from Auto Express recently uncovered the new nomenclature after spotting an F-Type prototype with a badge reading ‘P380 AWD’. It is believed that the P stands for petrol and the 380 refers to the horsepower output.

It is reported that this scheme will be adopted by JLR’s full range of models over the coming months, including the entry-level four-cylinder F-Type that’ll be dubbed the P300. Similarly, the Range Rover Velar will be sold as a D180 model and the range-topper will adopt the same P380 badging as the aforementioned F-Type due to its use of the same engine.

Beyond the brand’s diesel and petrol vehicles adopting new names, it is reported that future EVs will also follow a similar path. For example, the 395 hp Jaguar I-Pace could be badged the E400 (not sure how Mercedes will feel about that…) while hybrid versions of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport may receive ‘H’ badges.
