Since teasing us with their RM16 N Concept back in 2016, we've been waiting for Hyundai to get down to business and reveal a performance version of the Veloster.
Right off the bat, features such as the large wheels and brakes, lowered suspension and massive exhaust pipes tell us this isn't just any regular Veloster hiding out underneath all that heavy camouflage.
Furthermore, if the upcoming i30 N is any indication, a Veloster N could also feature adjustable dampers, a dual-stage stability control system and a track mode, to go with its limited-slip differential.
In terms of its appearance, aside from the more imposing features, this seemingly more menacing-looking Veloster will continue to have an asymmetrical door layout, where on the driver's side it looks like a 2-door coupe, and the other, like a 5-door hatch.
Underneath the hood, power could come via Hyundai's new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit, said to produce either 250 PS (240 HP) or 275 PS (271 HP) in the i30 N. In the Veloster N's case, whatever that number may be (the RM16 N Concept had 300 PS), the output will most likely be directed towards the front wheels, unless Hyundai's looking to go at the Focus RS and Golf R and switch to an AWD system.
Some interior changes are also expected, like a sporty steering wheel, sports seats, perhaps even a bespoke gauge cluster, although this is obviously a "wait and see" situation.
As for a possible release date, could be either 2018 or 2019, so here's to hoping Hyundai won't keep this car a secret for too long.
