Compact hatchbacks aren’t particularly popular with North American consumers, that's why Mercedes-Benz has not offered the A-Class in this side of the pond.
That's about to change with the next generation of the A-Class, which will be available as a sedan, too, for the first time in its 20-year history, and this version will reportedly make it to the U.S., marking the first time the nameplate will be available Stateside.
AutoNews reports that the car, which is due to hit showrooms around September, 2018, was already shown to local dealers and it was described as a new entry-level vehicle that will slot below the CLA.
The automaker declined to comment on the matter, but Jeff Aiosa, a New London, Connecticut, Mercedes dealer said: "I'm very excited about it. It just gives us another opportunity to bring that youthful buyer in, and have them grow up with the brand. It looked like it would be very appealing to the millennial buyer."
Aiosa went on to describe the A-Class Sedan's cabin as "cutting edge and techy", and added that if the price sit below or just above the $30,000 mark, then more than half of its customers will account for conquest sales from other brands.
Previewed by the Concept A Sedan that debuted in Shanghai, last April, the car will be part of the company's redesigned compact family. All models will be underpinned by the MFA2 platform, which offers standard front-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive.
Mercedes' US dealers also saw a version of the AMG GT four-door sedan, besides the A-Class, and received confirmation that it will launch locally next summer.
