New information about the 2020 Ford Bronco has surfaced online after an anonymous Ford engineer spoke to Gear Patrol.
For starters, the engineer claims that the American automaker will probably equip the new-age Bronco with the same basic 325 hp, 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 as the Ford Fusion Sport but that internal discussion are being held about also offering a hybrid version.
Beyond its engine, it is reported that Ford recently commissioned its third design study for the Bronco because it isn’t yet happy as to how the vehicle looks, suggesting it looks too much like the Jeep Wrangler.
According to the engineer, “If you’re familiar with the [Ford] Troller, out of Brazil, that’s the basic concept, but it’ll look like a four-door version of that.” As for a potential two-door version, there’s simply “no market for it,” says the engineer.
The reason why the new Bronco apparently looks so similar to the Wrangler is that it is being benchmarked directly against the capable off-roader. In fact, the engineer says Ford wants it to be comparable to the Wrangler Unlimited in every way, “except rock crawling.”
As the veracity of the alleged engineer’s statements cannot be verified, we still remain hopeful that Ford will pen a unique design for the new Bronco and make it capable enough to easily out-perform rivals.
