Mark Webber might have retired from racing, but thanks to his role at Porsche, the Australian now has the opportunity to sample and help develop market leading sports cars.
Most recently, Webber was involved in developing the 2018 911 GT2 RS and, according to the former F1 racer, his work included a 336 km/h (209 mph) blast down the long straight of the Nurburgring.
Speaking to Driving, Webber dubbed the car ‘King Kong’, a very fitting name considering the impending rivalry between it and Nissan’s GT-R, commonly known as Godzilla.
According to Porsche, the new GT2 RS will top out at 340 km/h (211 mph), a seriously impressive speed considering the drag-inducing huge wing that sits at the rear of the car. Despite being rear-wheel drive, the GT2 RS is no slouch off the line and reaches 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds thanks to a 690 hp, 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine and some customary Porsche launch control wizardry.
