BMW To Preview i5 With A Four-Door EV Concept At Frankfurt Motor Show

The third model in the BMW i range, the long rumored i5 will be previewed with a four-door EV concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.

BMW’s CEO Harald Krüger has confirmed that the company will debut a new concept in an official statement.

“At this year’s IAA, we will unveil another significant milestone in our roadmap for e-mobility. It is a vision of how we imagine a four-door, fully-electric vehicle between the i3 and i8. It is a vision we want to realize in the foreseeable future. And a further step in our commitment to sustainable mobility,” read the statement.

Autocar reports that the new i5 will be previewed by a notchback-style four-door concept that will offer a driving range between 311 and 435 miles.

Together with the confirmation of the new four-door i concept -which is expected to reach series production as the i5 in 2021- BMW also released an update on its 'Number One > Next' strategy saying that they will launch 25 electrified vehicles by 2025, with 12 of them being fully electric.

The new range of electrified models includes the first series production electric Mini that’s slated for 2019, with the all-electric version of the BMW X3 to follow in 2020. Together with the production version of the i5, BMW will also launch a separate i model, known as the iNext. Reports suggest that the iNext will be a large electric SUV to be placed as the range-topper in the BMW i range, when it launches in 2021.
