Porsche Still Undecided On Cayenne Coupe

At this time last year, our eagle-eyed spies snapped photos of an apparent Porsche Cayenne Coupe, potentially being readied for production. However, that may not have been the case.

During an interview with Autocar at the launch of the Cayenne, Porsche boss Oliver Blume said that the brand is considering a Cayenne Coupe but crucially, has not made a final decision about it.

“We analyse different segments and this can be an option in the future. Today, no decision has been taken. We have to make a calculation and talk to our customers,” he said.

In a similar vein to Blume, Porsche design chief Michael Mauer said the carmaker has designed such a Cayenne variant but not been given the go-ahead to make it a reality.

“For each and every model, we have a lot of ideas. But there has to be a business plan. Yes, we’ve developed a lot of ideas,” he said.

If the reported Cayenne Coupe prototype wasn’t in fact a BMW X6 rival, what was it? Well, there’s a possibility it could have simply been an early mule for the all-election Mission E made up of a mish-mash of components from Porsche’s spare parts bin.
