Bentleys are often described as these road-crushing, distance-destroying, incredibly fast and opulent machines but you never hear about them being actually fun to drive; that is until now, with the arrival of the new Continental GT.
The truly new Conti GT claims that not only is better in every single metric compared to its predecessor but also capable of offering proper fun to the driver, despite still tipping the scales at a rather heavyweight 2,250kg (4,960lbs).
Power comes from a twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 TSI engine that sends 626hp and 664lb-ft of peak torque to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. With the Sport mode engaged, Bentley says that the AWD system sends over 80 percent of the torque to the rear.
0-60mph comes in 3.6 seconds while top speed sits at 207mph (333km/h) if you must know but the true magic happens in the chassis; the adoption of the 48-volt electrical architecture allowed Bentley to use their new Dynamic Ride which controls the active anti-roll bars and makes sure that the car stays flat in all circumstances.
Combined with a revised three-chamber air suspension, the new Conti GT claims to offer one of the widest scopes on road manners, ranging from limousine levels of comfort to proper sporty handling.
Auto Express puts these claims to the test on the Anglesey circuit so let’s find out if the new Bentley Continental GT stays true to the description.
