Creating the Mercedes-Benz X-Class was a huge risk for the German manufacturer.
Not only is it exploring a segment of the pickup truck market previously untapped, it is also the brand’s very first pickup and a radical shift from what the world is used to Mercedes building. Only time will tell if creating a Nissan Navara-based truck was a good decision but in the meantime, the official trailer for the X-Class has been released.
Watching it, it is pretty obvious that Mercedes is marketing the X-Class as a go-anywhere, do-anything vehicle that works just as well in the city as it does in the wild, including the desert.
Consequently, the X-Class has the potential to be quite a popular lifestyle vehicle in the countries which it is targeting, including Australia, South Africa, Argentina and Brazil. It will also be sold throughout Europe and may or may not arrive in the U.S.
From launch, it will be offered with a 2.3-liter turbo-diesel with 163 PS and a biturbo-diesel delivering 190 PS. A 165 PS model will be offered at a later date alongside a 258 PS V6 in X 350 d guise.
