VW Atlas Selling Like Hotcakes In The U.S.

In its first full month of sales in the United States, the Volkswagen Atlas is already looking like a win for the brand, outselling rivals like the Mitsubishi Outlander and Mazda CX-9.

Throughout June, 2,413 examples of the Atlas were sold across the country, accounting for over half of its utility vehicle sales which, it must be said, aren’t all that impressive.

Despite U.S. buyers flocking towards SUVs, pickups and crossovers at record numbers, just 14 per cent of VW’s sold throughout 2017 have been utility vehicles, The Truth About Cars reports.

Built at the firm’s Tennessee plant, the Atlas is certainly the most modern and appealing SUV in the automaker’s range and its launch came shortly before the Touareg was discontinued. This summer, the new Tiguan will reach U.S. and thanks to its availability of a third-row, will provide U.S. customers with another option, helping VW increase those lacklustre utility vehicle sales.

Prices for the Atlas start at a reasonable $31,425 for the 2.0-liter turbo and top out at $50,275 for the SEL Premium. In between is the AWD V6 starting at $34,825, the $39,815 SE with Technology AWD and the $43,615 SEL AWD.
