In 2006, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift brought into the mainstream a once-popular sub-culture of car tuning that saw vehicles fitted with the wildest chrome wheels, exhausts, paint schemes and interiors imaginable. This 1995 Mitsubishi FTO GPX currently up for grabs on Car Sales in Australia is one of the victims of that era.
Initially produced exclusively for the Japanese market and later exported to markets including the UK, Australia and New Zealand, the FTO was a popular front-wheel drive sports car that can now be purchased on the cheap.
Unfortunately for the current owner of this FTO, we can't imagine it changing hands any time soon. The modifications start with the paint. It is a mixture of pink, purple, black and grey and while from the photos it appears to have been done quite well and at a substantial cost, it might be a bit too much to digest.
That's not all: the sports car has been installed with a set of chrome wheels so huge and so ugly that they would have perfectly suited a modified Hummer from the mid-2000s. When combined with incredibly low-profile tires, we imagine this FTO probably feels like its driving over boulders even when on a perfectly smooth road. There's also a massive tailpipe and a white interior.
Considering all the modifications made, the $3,999 asking price isn't absurd. After all, the paint job could have easily cost more than that alone. Even still, this FTO stretches the boundaries of good taste a bit too much, in our humble opinion.
