BMW M2 CS Sends Tongues Wagging At The 'Ring

Demand for high-performance vehicles is so insatiable these days that carmakers are being forced to continually up their game and release faster and crazier models to the market at an unprecedented pace.

In fact, things have become so out of hand that Porsche decided to skip the 911 GT2 altogether and jump straight to the GT2 RS, knowing that enthusiasts would immediately start begging for a faster car if a ‘regular’ GT2 was launched.

A few notches below the latest 911 in the industry sits the M2, and while it received rave reviews from the moment of its international launch at Laguna Seca, the German company is hard at work developing not one, but two, faster versions set to receive the CS and GTS badges.

Tipped to launch next year, the M2 CS will be the first off the block and receive the M3/M4’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six in place of the existing single-turbo N55 engine. While the vehicle’s beefed-up engine should deliver around 402 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque, it will be slightly detuned from the M3 and M4 so the entry-level M model doesn’t steal sales from its more expensive siblings.

Recently filmed at the Nurburgring, it’s apparent that the M2 CS will be more track-oriented than the standard car and an impressive driver’s car.
