The McLaren movie is inching closer to widespread U.S. distribution as Gunpowder & Sky has released a new trailer for the documentary.
Following in the footsteps of films such as Senna, the documentary tells the story of Bruce McLaren through rare footage as well as interviews with former colleagues, crew members, and competitors.
According to the film studio, "McLaren recounts the New Zealander’s life, from his humble beginnings at his father’s auto shop in Auckland, to revolutionizing Formula One racing by becoming the youngest driver ever to win a Grand Prix, to his death at 32."
The film will be shown at a series of special screenings which will culminate with an airing during Monterey Car Week on August 18th. The film will then be released in the United States on August 25th via an unmentioned video-on-demand platform.
The film was directed by Roger Donaldson using a script written by Matthew Metcalfe, Tim Woodhouse, and James Brown.
McLaren has already been released in several markets and it currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 73 percent. Most reviews are pretty positive but a number of them note the film fails to live up to standards set by Senna.
