This 'Hippie' Porsche 918 Recounts A Famous 917 Racer

Every Porsche 918 Spyder to roll out of the German factory is special, but there are a small handful of 918s which go to a level beyond the rest, and this is one of them.

There are apparently just seven examples of Porsche’s hybrid hypercar which don’t feature the available foil wrap livery of the Weissach package but instead have their liveries painted on to the body panels. One of those seven takes the shape of a red and white example and belongs to retired racer Mark Webber, but this one is even more intriguing.

The so-called ‘hippie’ livery combines red, white and yellow as well as a number 2 and small Martini decals. As with the other six 918s like it, the livery takes inspiration from a former Porsche race car, namely the ‘Shell Psychedelic’ 917-021.

It is reported that the owners of the seven exclusive racing-inspired and painted 918s are among the elite of the firm’s VIP clients. They were also among the final units to be built and delivered before production ended in mid-2015.
