Ferrari 812 Superfast Wind Tunnel Model Might Sell For $380,000

The 1:2 scale Ferrari 812 Superfast used during wind tunnel testing of the new supercar will cross the auction block on September 9 and could actually sell for more than a road-going 812 is worth.

The model will be one of many Ferrari’s offered for sale during RM Sotheby’s Leggenda E Passione auction and is expected to sell for between 280,000 euros and 320,000 euros ($332,000-$380,000).

Weighing 200 kg (440 lbs), the wind tunnel model is handmade from carbon fiber and other “prototype materials” and despite its high sales price, is nothing but a shell. That means there are none of the impressive mechanical features of the 812 Superfast. What you see is literally what you get.

RM Sotheby’s says it was used throughout the development of the 812 Superfast including to test and improve computational fluid dynamic results.

It is unquestionably a piece of Ferrari history but is it really worth more than the full-size car itself?
