Volkswagen recently unveiled the T-Roc at the Frankfurt Motor Show and the company is already moving forward with plans to develop a high-performance R variant.
Recently spotted undergoing testing near the Nürburgring, this particular prototype doesn't look terribly interesting as the overall design echoes the standard model. However, a closer inspection reveals a four-tailpipe exhaust system and sporty alloy wheels.
While the prototype doesn't show what the production model will look like, the T-Roc R-Line gives us a pretty good idea about what to expect. As we have previous reported, the styling package adds body-color bumpers, a unique rear diffuser, and tinted taillights. On the inside, there's a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, unique upholstery, and stainless steel pedals.
Motivation will likely be provided by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine sourced from the Golf R. Slated to produce 310 PS (228 kW), the engine should be connected to a seven-speed automatic transmission which sends power to a 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
Volkswagen executive have already dropped several hints about the T-Roc R and reports suggest it's just one of four models under development. Other vehicles are rumored to include an Arteon R, a Tiguan R, and a Touareg R.
