A 21-year-old from Detroit’s Macomb Township has been arrested after stealing an ambulance and forcing police officers on a chase.
At approximately 6:35 pm last Saturday, Eric Preston stole the ambulance after workers were dropping off a patient at a local hospital.
Not long after getting behind the wheel, officers began pursuing Preston along a four-lane road. In his attempts to evade capture, he swerved off the road into a grassed area before re-emerging on the road and continuing to elude authorities. His luck eventually ran out as he attempted to again drive on grass before becoming stuck.
The Detroit News reports that Preston was taken into custody and kept at the Macomb County Jail.
He has been arraigned on a 5-year felony charge of Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile. His motive for stealing the ambulance remains unknown.
