Various Dodge Dealers Selling Challenger Demon Allocations On eBay

While Dodge is trying its best to encourage dealerships to sell the Challenger SRT Demon at its $84,990 sticker price, it has emerged that a number of dealers are making profits off the muscle car by selling allocation slots.

Automotive News recently discovered that many dealers are using intermediaries on eBay to auction off allocations, while some are auctioning off the rights to the Demon themselves. Demand is so high that many buyers are willing to pay between $10,000 and $70,000 for the privilege of ordering the Demon, on top of the car's nearly $90,000 price.

A quick search on the auction site reveals a number of Demons for sale, either the car itself or simply the allocation. At the time of writing, bidding for an early allocation alone was approaching $41,000.

In June, Dodge brand head Tim Kuniskis talked about the company’s bid to dissuade dealers from selling the car over sticker.

“We know some dealers may be tempted to sell to the highest bidder, but we are encouraging them to leverage the Demon as a halo for both the brand and their dealership, to bring customers into their showrooms and see everything we have to offer,” he said.

Dodge will build the Demon exclusively for the 2018 model year and cap production to 3,000 units for the U.S. and 300 for Canada. Capable of sprinting down the quarter mile in just 9.65 seconds, the Demon holds the accolade of the world’s most accelerative production car and has the potential to become a prized collector’s car, hence the demand.
