Ferrari has been quite busy lately, what with the launch of the 812 Superfast and all, but at the same time it seems to be working on yet another version of the 488.
Caught on camera by our vigilant spy photographers earlier this week, and now scooped on video at the Nurburgring, this prototype could hide a different number of things beneath its camouflaged body, but the most probable scenario is a hardcore variant of the 488, which might also bring back the GTO moniker.
If that is indeed the case, then it would serve as the direct successor to the 458 Speciale, which, like its predecessor, should sport a tweaked body, modified chassis, less weight and more power coming from the 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8.
The unit currently makes 670PS (661hp) and 760Nm (561lb-ft) of torque, but in order for the supercar to take on the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and McLaren 720S, it would need more muscle, so expect a number around 700PS (690hp).
Some reports talk about it featuring a KERS-like hybrid powertrain, but it remains to be seen whether the Prancing Horse will keep this technology limited to their V12-powered cars, or if they will implement it to the V8 ones as well.
